Auckland's Best Breakfasts

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day"

I'm sure you've heard that quote hundreds of times but it's honestly so true! Breakfast has got to be my absolutely favourite meal. Nothing can beat starting the day with some delicious food and a good coffee. To convince you even further of how great breakfast can be I've compiled a list of 'Auckland's Best Breakfasts' to give you some inspiration when you're feeling a bit tired of the classic toast and Weet-Bix routine.

1.  Eton Rifle - Winona Forever, Parnell

No Auckland Breakfast list could begin without mentioning this absolute masterpiece from Winona Forever. The 'Eton Rifle' is described as, "brioche french toast with eton mess, poped meringues, whipped mascarpone cream, summer berries and raspberry gin compote" If that doesn't already sell you, this beautiful dish is only $18 and trust me when I tell you it is a mission to try and finish this meal.

2. Seasonal Crepes - Odette's Eatery, City Works Depot.

Odette's has got to be my absolute favourite spot for breakfast in Auckland. Everytime I bring a friend or family member here they are just blow away by the beautiful setting and food and the absolutely lovely staff! My all time favourite breakfast items to order off their menu are their crepes which change seasonally but are always delicious. The first time I had one it was a vanilla crepe with grapes and strawberries and the second crepe pictured was caramelised apple flavoured with candy floss on the top! Odette's also does amazing coffee.

3. French Toast or the Benediction - Crave, Morningside

Crave does the absolute best french toast in Auckland in my opinion. They use brioche topped with berry compote, mascarpone and pistachio & walnut crumble. It is SO good! My other breakfast favourite on the menu has got to be the 'Benediction' which is their version of an eggs bene. Rather than being on top of toast the eggs are on a sort of homemade hash brown.

4. Matcha Waffles - Dear Jervois, Herne Bay

I've ordered these waffles a couple of times now and they have not disappointed both times. The waffles are crispy and delicious and are topped with nice cream, grapes, strawberries, maple syrup and raspberry mascarpone. So yummy!

5.  Toasted Muesli - Bestie Cafe, Karangahape Rd.

This is one of my favourite cheaper breakfasts, for $12 you get a bowl of incredible muesli, topped with seasonal fruit, coconut yoghurt and milk. I absolutely love ordering this dish alongside a black filter coffee and getting started on some study before class. The location is ideal for UoA and AUT students!

6.  The Nest - L'oeuf, Mt Albert.

One of my favourite suburban cafes has got to be L'oeuf in Mt Albert. The staff are so friendly and the food and coffee is always on point. Just yesterday I tried 'The Nest' for the first time and it was really tasty. It consists of two soft-boiled eggs in a filo pastry 'nest' on top of mesculun, feta and betroot ketchup. So Instagram worthy as well ;)

 7. Coconut yoghurt, tamarillo, granola - Hugo's Bistro, Auckland CBD

This has got to be on the simplest breakfasts on this list but definitley one of my favourites still. Although it only has a few ingredients this breakfast will fill you up big time! As well as being on the dine-in menu, Hugo's now offers this dish takeaway as well!

Hope you all enjoyed having a read of this and that it's provided you with some breakfast inspiration!
Enjoy the rest of your week,

- Ruby x
